Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3)
Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium and keeps bones, muscles and the immune system working properly. Deficiency is very common in Pakistan despite plentiful sunshine.
What Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is used for
Vitamin D deficiency, bone health, supporting calcium absorption and immune function.
How it works
The liver and kidneys convert cholecalciferol into calcitriol, the active hormone that drives calcium absorption from the gut and its deposition into bone.
Side effects
Rare at normal doses. Very high intake over time can raise blood calcium, causing nausea, thirst and kidney problems.
Precautions
Take with a meal containing some fat for best absorption. High-dose weekly regimens should be supervised, and levels rechecked after about three months.
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) — common questions
Why is vitamin D deficiency so common in Pakistan?
Limited skin exposure to direct sunlight, higher melanin levels, indoor working hours, air pollution and a diet low in oily fish all reduce vitamin D. Deficiency is found across all age groups.
Should vitamin D be taken with food?
Yes. Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so taking it with a meal containing some fat meaningfully improves absorption.
